Why Do Outreach?

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.  Ephesians 2:8-10

You might wonder . . . Why should a Red Hat group, whose primary purpose is to grow friendships and have fun, get involved in Outreach Projects?  That's a valid question, because the Red Hat Society itself, outside of encouraging ladies to gather together to enjoy life, cultivate friendships and never stop playing, does not have any provision or requirement for doing any type of outreach.  But we as Christians should have a different outlook and perspective, and we are called to a higher standard.

We definitely enjoy playing and having fun together, but we also feel a necessity and a responsibility to reach out and help others.  It's in our DNA to share the love and blessings that God has bestowed on us.  While we all have our personal struggles and challenges, we also have many blessings in our lives. We have family and friends who love and care about us; we have a roof over our head; a comfy, warm bed to sleep in; good nourishing food to eat; clothes in our closet; a car to drive; a couple bucks in our pocket; and outside of a few aches and pains and the occasional cold or flu, we are relatively healthy.  And most importantly of all, we have the security of God's amazing gift of grace and the promise of eternity with Him.  God has blessed us richly, and we need to continually thank Him for providing us with all of this and so much more.

As a small way of expressing our appreciation for all that we have, we want to reach out to others who are not as fortunate and pay back, or actually pay forward, some of what we have been blessed with. And while we cannot help EVERYONE EVERYWHERE EVERY-TIME, we can help SOMEONE SOMEWHERE SOME-OF-THE-TIME.

Thank you for helping our outreach projects be successful.
